Teveldalen

27 Aug

This is the home of my great-grandfather.

(This is a very long post, so click below to read the rest.)

I rented a car in Trondheim, and after getting past all the ridiculously awful traffic circles near the airport, had a nice hour-or-so drive down E14 to Teveldalen. I saw this and knew I was close. It’s the name of a big lodge that’s apparently built on land that our family used to own.

I turned here and crossed a little bridge.

And there it was: farmland! Probably very little has changed in the last 100 years.

Sure, some new homes have been built and new farming equipment is in place; it’s a popular destination for hiking, camping, and skiing. But it’s not like they’ve bulldozed everything and built a Wal-Mart. That view is the same. The trees, the water, the land — all the same after so long.

But what about my life and the lives of all those related to the man who left this town for a better life in America? Talk about change. Talk about the effects your choices have on others.
